  • Leo R. Blais, Rhode Island State Senator

State Senator for Rhode Island from 1992 to present. His father, Leo D. Blais, was also a state senator from 1972 to 1974, after serving in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War.

  • Paul Blais, Author

Paul Blais has written a book about his son, Paul Blais Jr., who was involved in the terrorist bombing at Khobar Towers in Dharan, Saudi Arabia in 1996 and suffered massive head injuries as a result. In a suspenseful but heartwarming fashion, the book chronicles the days immediately after the bombing as well as over the next several years as the family battles to save their son and find treatment for his injuries.

  • Clarke Blaise, Author and Teacher

Clarke Blaise is a well-respected author of 17 books, born in Fargo, North Dakota but raised partially in Winnipeg, the home of his mother. He later resided in Montreal in order to teach until 1980. Clarke married Bharati Mukherjee of Calcutta, India, also a well-known author, supposedly during a lunch break from their studies at the University of Iowa. Clarke states that the spelling of his family's name was changed by his father, Leo Romeo Blais, to Blaise in the 1920's order to dodge the police as Leo was apparently a rum-runner during Prohibition. Clarke wrote a book about his father, called I Had a Father, which is currently out of print but will be brought back to print by University of Iowa Press early next year. Clarke does not have a biographical web site per se, but all of the search engines list many articles about Clarke Blaise as well as reviews of his works.

  • Kelly Blais, Soccer Star

Kelly Blais, who is the daughter of my first cousin, survived a serious bout with spinal meningitis but recovered and regained her position in the lineup of University of Southern California's Women's Soccer team.
